Joint Amalgam of Doctors and Paramedical Associations, Kashmir (JADPA) feels deeply agonized and aghast over the barbaric assault and harassment of health Personals of District Hospital Handwara yesterday evening. On 03/04/2014 at around 8 pm a case of Road Traffic Accident was brought dead by the police Personals to District Hospital Handwara for legal formalities and post Morten who were accompanied by a huge mob. Miscreants from the mob thrashed the mortuary staff of the hospital. Later they went inside the hospital wherein they manhandled the hospital staff and there was a huge destruction to the infrastructure of the hospital especially the causality section. Equipments were also destroyed by the uncontrollable mob. Seeing the violent mob entering the hospital the staff on night duty tried to flee from the rooms to save their lives. Even some police personals also got injured during the event. JADPA though having a full sympathy with the family of deceased simultaneously condemns this beastly act in strongest possible words. It was a case of a person who was brought dead and had to undergo post Morten. JADPA in no way feels that there was a flaw on the part of hospital staff but still the mob went berserk and created a havoc which has traumatized the staff mentally. JADPA via this press release conveys to all the medical fraternity of State Health Department to observe a ONE HOUR TOKEN STRIKE tomorrow as a mark of protest against this savage act. We warn the Govt. Authorities and Director Health Services, Kashmir to intervene in this matter and book the culprits under the ambit of law otherwise we will go for a state wide agitation whose responsibility will solely be on the department and the Govt. It has been a long demand of ours that attacking any health personal on duty or destroying hospital infrastructure be made a COGNIZABLE OFFENCE. The medical fraternity of Kashmir Division is doing a splendid job under difficult situations which has been even appreciated at the national level but yet we have to suffer unnecessarily with no fault of ours. Life threatening unruly events like these will yield nothing but it will demoralize the work culture thereby affecting the patients at large.
