Joint Statement of AACN, AWCAC and ACWO about Detention of a Social and Anti-Corruption Activist For Immediate Release Kabul 13 July 2013 Mr. Azizurahman Sakhizadah, a social and anti-corruption activist published a disclosure letter on Daily Mandegar Newspaper issue number 1069 under the title of (Leadership of the High office of Oversight Sunk in Corruption) where he disclosed cases of corruption at the High Office of Oversight & Anti-Corruption (HoO). The letter has angered HoO and the office has sent a letter to the Afghan Attorney General Office to arrest Mr. The Attorney General Office (AGO) should have investigated the allegation and disclosure of corruption in the HoO, but sadly instead of following the allegation of corruption at the HoO the AGO has arrested Mr. Sakhizada and he has been in detention since last week by the order of HoO. While HoO has repeatedly claimed that the office has sent lists of corrupt officials to the Attorney General Office, but none of the cases of the senior government officials have been dealt yet. Sadly a social activist, who has disclosed cases of corruption in an institution, has been arrested by the AGO immediately. Afghan Anti-Corruption Network (AACN), Afghan Women Coalition Against Corruption (AWCAC) Anti-Corruption Watch Organization (ACWO) call the arrest of a social and anti-corruption activist against all democratic values, principles of human rights, freedom of expressions and against international commitments of the Afghan government. Meanwhile the organizations urge H.E Hamid Karzai, president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for immediate release of Mr. Sakhizadah.
