Jonathan is a good, loving father, a historical figure, and finally the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nevertheless, I don’t like Jonathan policy prescriptions, and I strongly believe many people detest the invincible achievements coming from the so-called “transformation.” It should be acknowledged that the patriotic ‘hatred’ for his poor performance, his cuddliness to corruption, his failure to provide security for her citizens among other vital issues, therefore must be tackled by electing or selecting a nominee with integrity and passion, within the main opposition party, APC. It is therefore necessary to assert that you cannot proclaim that Jonathan leadership is bad, corrupt and simultaneously praise some people whose records are worse. If we were to take that logical conclusion, that reasoning, that unsellable proposition, it is high time we woke up Abacha from the dead. The 2015 presidential election requires a surprise opponent that can form a strong team to defeat Jonathan–––throw his administration out of office because it is long overdue. Buhari, Atiku, Tinubu, for example, are not and will not be part of the political calculus. They are expired, disoriented, and corrupt politicians with no sense of purpose. While Buhari if he is the nominee may be a threat in terms of face-off with Jonathan, he is not a real threat. This is the time to give someone else’s an opportunity to test the water. The strong desire to supposedly believe Buhari et al. are the right people or the better candidates is the beginning of the end. To defeat Jonathan, the opposition needs a candidate who can reassure the market women, displaced youth, middle class, “lower class” and all voters that his or her plans are better, for example, to bring inflation down and provide a welfare services for those who merit it–––benefits that are deep-rooted in impartiality not nepotism and favoritism. Could you imagine someone who campaign on providing tap water for example, for Nigerians? The multiplier effects of stable water in our life, the economy, the environment are enormous. The candidate has to convince his party and members that she or he can pull together the frustrated electorates away from the incumbent by influencing them to drop their sentiment on seniority in the party, which plays prominent role in who becomes the nominee, considering the importance and what is at stake in the next election. More importantly he or she has to pledge of cleaning up Nigeria’s corrupt politics, and other things that have taken us back as if we were in archaic age. The person has to show commitment by raising the banner of a new dawn, regeneration, the provision of basic necessities by demonstrating that real change is plausible in stark contrast to the present “transformation” that should be called turmoil. Someone who can offer simple but steady solutions to our challenges sometimes with difficult decisions. Thinking that Buhari et al. is the better alternative, as most people have been suggesting, is a recipe for disaster. The bottom is that we will easily and overwhelmingly reelect Jonathan despite his unprecedented leadership failure because majority would conclude that the devil you know is more preferable to the unknown angel even in this unique case, the angel(s) is a devil incarnate. Election is about strategy, tactics, mobilization, MESSAGE, and the candidate itself. So do not tell me that aforementioned candidates are the only people in the opposition party, APC. A note of caution, it is only if something fundamental happens that could turn back the hand of time of defeating Jonathan considering one of the above-mentioned people eventually becomes the nominee. Good night friends!
