Jose Mourinho Continues His Rampage Against Moyes and Rooney Sam Peoples Jose Mourinho has continued his tirade against David Moyes and Wayne Rooney by claiming that the Scot is to blame for Rooney’s desire to leave Old Trafford. His latest accusation on the eve of tomorrow’s game against Manchester United focuses on Moyes’ reported comment that Rooney would be second choice behind Robin van Persie this year at United. When reminded that he will face a hostile atmosphere tomorrow at Old Trafford, Mourinho said: “They are against me? “But I didn’t say [to Rooney] you will be a second-choice for me. And they are against me? “We are trying to get a player that a manager told ‘You will be a second option’ for him. We are not going for Van Persie. They don’t have to be against me. If I say Ramires is a second option for me and he plays when Lampard is tired or injured, if someone comes here to get Ramires, nobody is upset.” Moyes didn’t even directly say that Rooney would be second choice this season, it was spun by the media and has now been taken as gospel. But when asked if Moyes was to blame for Rooney’s desire to leave, Mourinho didn’t pussyfoot around the subject despite trying to immediately back away from his opinion by stating that he was not criticising Moyes. “Of course [Moyes is to blame]. In every big team, I am not criticising, you have first options and second options, and those second options must be very good players. “Of course big teams must have second choices. Big players too. The point is if the players are happy to accept that situation.” Moyes is not to blame for Rooney’s desire to leave. His issues lie in problems that originated years ago. Mourinho should spend more time talking about his own team rather than constantly talking about United. He is still obviously upset at not getting chosen to be Sir Alex’s replacement this summer.
