Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good - TopicsExpress

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua appeared not ready to take over from Moses to lead the Israelites to the promised land. Several reasons may be advanced here that could have informed his reluctance: he understood how stubborn the Israelites were, he had been to the promised land and saw the giants (although he gave a good report, it was easier said than done), in the promised land were fortified cities that were impenetrable, his predecessor had a staff (walking stick) that he would use to perform miracles which he disappeared with when he died, he wasnt sure if God decided to destroy the Israelites he could stand in the gap like Moses and finally he was taking over from a man who had spoken directly with God. God who examines our hearts knew the fears in him. He comes down to encourage him and promise him that He will be with him all the time. You may have heard a clear word from God that you ought to go ahead and take a certain step but a cloud of uncertainty is enveloping you. God is speaking to you the way he spoke to Joshua. Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you. Lets plunge into the deep brethren. A powerful sermon at PCC yesterday.
