Journey Forward Thoughts for 31 October 2013 This morning I am - TopicsExpress

Journey Forward Thoughts for 31 October 2013 This morning I am going to sound like an old stick in the mud. Im going to talk about wisdom. It seems like there is two different kinds of wisdom, that of the world, and that of the Spirit. Years ago, when I was a leader of a health care facility, some of my staff wanted to dress up for Halloween. I thought about it, and didnt want to be a stick in the mud, so I said yes. The Emergency Room particularly liked to dress up. One of the nurses dressed up in a wedding dress, and painted herself to look as if she had blood all over her. During the day, a car accident came in, which had a couple of people pretty messed up with blood all over them. I often wondered how that patient felt when he looked up and saw a woman in a wedding dress, covered with blood, taking care of him. I finally had to use a different kind of wisdom when it came to dressing up for Halloween. I know some of the popular things today are still filled with gore and blood, on Halloween, yet what does Spiritual wisdom tell us. James 3:16-18 says, For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. Spiritual wisdom will seek the guidance of the spirit and not the guidance of the world. For some who really like to do it up for Halloween, I suppose that sounds like I am a stick in the mud, but on this day that so many like to find different ways to scare others, to dress like they would never want their children dressed, go out of their way, in the attitude of fun, to see how totally scary they can look. I wonder where wisdom is? I wonder what we would do, dressed in an offensive way, in the name of fun, and Jesus returned? Would we hang our head in shame? Would we smile and asked if he liked our costume? There is something playfully evil about this time of year, when people desire to dress up in ways that any other day of the year, would certainly cause offense. But think about it, what kind of a scare factor would we get going out door to door dressed like an evangelist of old? Maybe its one of those times that call for a little Spiritual wisdom to be used, instead of the wisdom of the world. But then, thats just me, an old stick in the mud. Pretty scary! Father, let my countenance always reflect your glory, let my speech be seasoned with grace, and let my actions be one fueled with Spiritual wisdom. For I know that once again I need you to show me your grace, that I might emulate, not the world, but you. Lord; hear my petitions as I openly bring those I care about so much, to your attention once more. Please heal, comfort, instruct with your wisdom, those needing to hear from you today. I pray for Donna, Steve, Cory, Heather, Johnny, Steve Fleming, Sherry, Mick, Scott, Andy B., George, David, Camryn, Stacy, Diane, Lincoln, Susans dad, James dad, Tracys mother. Father please touch: Rheba, Lord, please heal her pain, Betty, Montella, Harriet, Peggy, Drew, Joann, John, Maddox, Gus, Lisa, Ronnie, Roy, Arnold, Silvia, Ruby. Father, I continue to lift to you: Tracy, Abraham, Bishop Japeth, John and Patty, Mike and Megan, Ann, Willie and Karina. Father, please keep our young and old safe tonight as, many celebrate. May we use your wisdom, in our actions as we seek to enjoy each others company, I pray in Jesus name, Amen. Pastor Andy
