Journey went to the Vet today , he is still there. I have to pick him up in about a half hour (4:00 PM) He had to have that toe amputated. The Vet said she thinks what happened was when he almost lost that other toe from the lawn mower that when the blade cut this particular toe as well it may have broken the joint that the nail was attached to inside..shattered it and that is why the nail was at an odd angle and that the blood supply leading to that toe nail ended up causing basically another nail to begin developing there and that was what was poking through the pad. She said that if she went in and cut it out..it would most likely just continue to grow back resulting in more surgeries which we wanted to avoid. The only way to deal with it was to take that portion of the toe off. So she called to tell me that he was doing good and that he had an awful lot of blood vessels in that area. She said she has never seen something like that either and that it was basically a freak thing that happened. So he will be on strict leash walking for 2 - 3 weeks until it heals.
