Joy engraved the entire Sissala land When the then Minister of Communication, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, cut the tape for the commissioning of RADFORD FM in Tumu. Just as any radio, we all were expecting nothing short of entertainment, information and education from this new born baby. Over 5yrs down the line, the station is still struggling to achieve these objectives. Yes its a Community Radio but its still fresh in my mind when Hon. Haruna Iddrisu said it can be changed converted into a commercial one. Some issues pertaining to the growth of the station have been in my heart but I have not mastered the courage to air them, probably because I was an insider. I am now ready to share my opinion on those issues. BOARD OF DIRECTORS We couldnt have asked for better brains as board members than what we currently have and I have the deepest respect for each and every member, off course some were my teachers and I am proud to say they contributed in shaping my life. However, with all respect, I think the have gone into their slumber for far too long and the time for them to wake up is now. Some times, there are some things going on at the station and you expect the board to step their feet on the ground and take strait measures but a particular staff kept on running to them painting himself as the saint yet his/her actions and in-actions are detrimental to the Stations growth. Secondly, i still cant understand why they kept on recycling past broadcasters to head the Station. Its one thing gaining working experience as a technician or a broadcast journalist but its not a guarantee that you will be a good manager. There are unemployed graduates with managerial skills roaming out there, what prevent the board hiring these expects on contract bases? If they know that their job sustainability rely solely on them meeting their contract targets, I am pretty sure such individuals will sit up make the Station counted. Aside employing the required persons into management, a critical look should also be taken at the presenters/DJs. Honestly, sometimes you hear some of these presenters/DJs and you ask yourself what they are doing there. Some raise issues that they have no knowledge on or the research they do on such issues are poor that sometimes they misrepresent the facts. At least we can employ some these graduate unemployed and pay them something they can live on and they will help project the image of the Station. Did I hear someone saying with what money? Look, there are HND Marketing graduates out there, employ them and they will bring inn the cash. Its done elsewhere, we can also do it PROGRAMMING I must say there are some programmes at the Station that, from audience response, are very good. However, there are some that you really ask your self what they seek to achieve in the long run. As I side earlier, some of these good programmes are being handled by presenters/DJs that either do not acquint themselves well or their presentation is blow par. I must say sometimes its not the doing of these presenters/DJs because they are not provided with the right equipment/facilities to do their work. Internet facility is a rare commodity at the Station and this is not acceptably. How can you educate and inform on wrong information? For me, an evaluation needs to be done on the programmes being aired and base on that an informed decision can be taken on which should be scrubbed and maintained. Presenters/DJs should be assessed and the below par ones been shown the exit door.....(1/2) Watch out this space for more..........
