Jude 1: Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. The - TopicsExpress

Jude 1: Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. The noun "Slave", in the original is δοῦλος. It is transliterated as dulos. It has the connotation of a "bond-servant of necessity". Its root is the verb δέω (transliterated as deo). Deo means to be bethrothed, to pledge to give oneself in marriage. Therefore it speaks of subjection or subserviency. Now consider this: Jude was half-brother of the Lord. He could have very well chosen to open his letter by saying, "Jude, a brother of Jesus Christ...", but instead he chose to subject himself to the Lordship of the Lord, and chose to say "a slave of Jesus Christ". Have you submitted yourself to the Lordship of the One who created the heavens and the earth and all therein?
