Mother always shared her love for hula, she would say, “Learn from the depth of your na’au (gutt) and dance from your soul.” I find myself saying the same things to my nā haumana (students). Hula is a BIG part of my LIFE. When asked to give some Words of Advice she says: Be happy and enjoy “life!” Aunty was also asked to share a Favorite ‘Ōlelo No’eau/Quote and Why: Kulia i ka nu’u - “strive to reach the summit.” We all must strive for personal best or excellence which means, we are responsible for what we learn and most importantly, we are responsible for what we do. These are the words and teachings of my parents and tutuma (grandma). “Learn well and teach well” that’s what I believe and practice.
