Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the - TopicsExpress

Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet. Isaiah 28:17 A person reflected on his childhood working on his uncle’s farm: A saying he used often was “out of kilter.” On the farm my uncle had his ways of doing things, and if you didn’t do it his way, then you were “out of kilter.” I can’t tell you how many times I was out of kilter! When something is not straight and true, we say it’s “out of plumb.” In Bible times a plumb line was a cord with a lead weight used by builders to make sure that walls were constructed straight up and down. A spiritual plumb line speaks of God’s absolute uprightness. Apply God’s plumb line to our marriages and homes. How do the ethics of business, politics, and entertainment measure up to God’s plumb line? We can see how far our country has strayed from the biblical standards of right and wrong. God has established Jesus as the only worthy object of trust. Under His reign, everything will have to meet the test of the plumb line of righteousness. We must get back to God’s Word to be plumb. If not, God will surely bring judgment upon our crooked walls. Father, forgive us for being out of plumb. Thank You for Your mercy as we come back to the straight and narrow.
