Working gave them back their pride . Cottons mills were scattered all over the South . We needed at that time the manufacturing base to make it with some symbol of our dignity. We all could not farm . The red clay of the up-state did not produce a lot . Corn for shine and feed for stock & chickens .Cotton mills were not all bad for us poor Southerners . Comment
