Judith Sargent Murray moves to Franklin Place, Boston in 1794 (letter excerpt - enjoy!): “The apartments are finished in the modern taste, and they are spacious, lofty, commodious, and elegant [—] great attention has been paid to domestic convenience, and we are furnished with almost every thing useful as well as ornamental — We are situated in the Centre of this Metropolis, and yet, in my back parlour, I am altogether as retired, and remote from noise, as if I were the peaceful inhabitant of some village Hamlet — The view from my window is highly rural, an extensive meadow in which the most useful of all domestic animals is contented by feeding, is amply outspread … from our upper apartments, we are presented with a view of the Ocean, and the appearance of shiping, through the breaks of the buildings … most agreeably diversifies the scene.” Judith Sargent Murray to Winthrop Sargent (brother), 24 September 1794; the building (designed by Bulfinch) no longer stands, but it was located at Franklin and Arch Streets.
