Julia Owens Craig Says My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with ASD. We have her first IEP meeting at the school next week. What should I expect? Im already having a hard time with them because they say that my daughter doesnt fall under the umbrella for services for being autistic even though they have the diagnosis. They said that she is adhd. They believe that she just has high anxiety and isnt on the spectrum due to being verbal and being just as smart as her peers, if not smarter. The only way we were able to get her into school is because her primary care doctor had to say she is adhd. She says we have to get her into school with that because they wouldnt take her if she was diagnosed with adhd. When the lady from the school told me that she didnt agree with the doctors diagnosis of my daughter being on the spectrum, she asked me if I agreed. I told her that I didnt agree with them. They only evaluated her for an hour. My daughter didnt cooperate because of the change (she doesnt cope with change at all). She has major trouble with change, sensory, and social things. Does anyone have any advice to help? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are based in White House TN
