July 16: The moon mainly was just the stuff of science fiction novels and radio shows for years. But after years of testing, simulations, actual orbital flights and the like it was time to actually go where only comic books and fictional heroes had gone before. July 16, 1969, the first mission to the moon, with an actual landing on the lunar surface planned this time around. Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins had been through every step to prepare. The only thing actually left was to go and 44 years ago today they did. We know how it went. Four days later Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. Comments from the mission made their way into pop culture. We all have hard “the Eagle has landed” and “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” It is possible today there are those who have heard the statements but do not know their origin. The next day the small lunar unit blasted off from the moon’s surface to reconnect with Collins and head home. It was fascinating. Science fiction now was reality. During their hours on the moon Armstrong and Aldrin planted a U.S. Flag, collected rocks and took pictures. They left something too, a marker that read -- "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot on the moon--July 1969 A.D.--We came in peace for all mankind.” Some still do not accept it even happened. Jesus Christ came TO the planet Earth, in peace for all mankind. Do you accept it happened? Do you follow his Word? “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)
