July 3, 2013 – Day 43 Today was the thirty-fourth day of riding. We rode from Ankeny, IA to Kellogg, IA. I went 50.03 miles with a 1591 elevation gain. The average temperature was 85.6oF (without wind). David and I had a nice leisurely ride. Megan and Mom had to take R2 into the shop for its 20,000 miles tune-up. Over the phone this morning we were told it would only take an hour. Guess what? Upon their arrival they were told it would take 3-4 hours. So David and I just took our sweet time. Megan and Mom got dropped off to enjoy the mall. Even taking our time we arrived at camp before they did. So we just chilled on the table beside our camp spot waiting on them. We didn’t see much today other than corn fields. David and I are both tired of seeing corn fields (and more to come I’m sure.) We both have decided that so far this is our least favorite state. We didn’t go by the route that David programmed into the Garmin Edge 500 today. David changed the route on course depending on the traffic and the road. It was nice but not nice. The GPS was going crazy all day. We would intersect the course or run parallel to the programmed course but we never really on the course. Any way I’m being shooed off to take a shower so I have to go… …
