June 24, 2013 Eagle Academy Charter School Families and Friends, As you may or may not have heard, Eagle Academy Charter School (EACS) is looking into expanding our program. This is very exciting news! We will be looking at increasing our enrollment, but not class size. That means we are planning on having up to 2 classes per grade. In order to do this, we are considering building a new building here in Eagle River. Expanding our school in its current location has been investigated, but it would be financially prohibitive due to the upfront costs EACS would have to cover as well as the increase in traffic and playground use in a facility that is already bursting at the seams. As an alternative idea that appears to be more financially feasible, we are looking at a partnership with another entity to include more access to aspects of the fine arts. This will not alter our curriculum path in any way, which is one thing that makes EACS what it is. We are at the point that we need additional help, counsel, and guidance from outside expert sources. Making our ideas and dreams a reality is the next step. We are hoping to find some wonderful people in areas of finance, architecture, legal, and real estate development that would be willing to assist us pro bono. Currently there is no extra money in our budget, but we need to get things rolling. One area that we need advice on, as soon as possible, is how to best set up a Building Fund Account, so we have money for our expansion. It was also suggested, there might be a high school senior that could help design our building for a senior project. There are probably other areas we may not have even thought of yet that you might know of where you can help us. Without this expansion, our program at EACS will not be able to financially continue on. Like so many other areas of life and the economy, we, at EACS, need to tighten our belts. It might sound like building a new building is counter-intuitive to that initiative, but for our long term planning, it will actually work out better. The funding for our school is based on student enrollment. When we have unfilled classes (which happens in our upper grades as the conflict between elementary and middle school comes into play), we have less in our budget. With this new building, we are hoping to have 2 of grades K-5, one 6, and one 7/8. This will enable us to have a fully enrolled school with a stable funding base, and it will provide an opportunity for students to remain at EACS until they are ready to enter high school. We ask you to please share this message and request for assistance with your family and friends. If you, or anyone you know, would be willing to help us out with such an exciting and wonderful project to help our students at EACS, please contact either Anne Ogden, [email protected], or Jean Gillette, [email protected]. Thank you for your time in reading through this. Thank you for sharing this message with others who might be able to take our dreams and make them into reality. This is exciting news and we want you all to be a part of it!
