June 7, Today In 1775 the United Colonies changed their name to The United States. Three years later on this date English “dandy” Beau Brummell was birthed. Not to be confused with the Beau Brummells who were a ‘60’s pop band who performed in the Bert I. Gordon drive-in movie Village of the Giants starring Beau Bridges. If it wasn’t for Beau Brummell we’d all be buying Knee britches, stockings and buckle shoes at Men’s Warehouse. Beau basically invented the modern men’s suit. Dark coats, tailored trousers, immaculate shirt linen and an elaborately knotted tie. He also claimed to take at least 5 hours a day to dress and recommended that boots be polished with Champagne. Which reminds me - Elvis loved peanut butter & banana sandwiches washed down with Champagne? Mmmm. On this day in 1982 Elvis’ Priscilla, queen of the Police Squad movies opened Graceland to the public. You could go anywhere on the grounds except the throne room where the King ascended to Heaven. Trivia time. The Beau Brummells supposedly chose their name so their records would be filed directly behind The Beatles. Riddle me this; Do you remember the name Hanna- Barbera gave the band when they were on The Flintstones? Don’t make me print it here. Time to tie a Beau on this. 06.07.08
