Jupiter Seahawks 10U end season on a high note Provided to The Courier Newsweekly Thursday, August 15, 2013 The Jupiter Seahawks 10 & Under Girls Fastpitch Softball team ended its 2013 travel season on a high note by capturing second place at the National Softball Association’s Southern World Series in Lakeland. The Seahawks played with grit and determination during the week something they had done all season but couldn’t quite hold off the efforts of the Riverview Florida Lady Cyclones, who came back in the last inning of the championship game to beat the Seahawks 5-4. “It was disappointing, and there were a lot of tears in the dugout; but the girls played well and had a great chance to win the title. It just wasn’t meant to be,” head coach Jeff White said. “They should hold their heads high. We had a great season, had lots of fun. The girls improved individually and as a team, and they developed a real sense of camaraderie among each other.” For the tournament, Kirsten Pulvermacher and Madison Leonard led the team on the pitching mound; just as they did all season. They also were the team’s top two hitters, along with Hannah Cowley and Claudia De Sena. “We had a real nice mix this year of returning girls and new girls to the team. And they all seemed to jell, get along and really enjoy each other’s company,” White said. The team played at a very high level during the season. While they knocked on the door many times, the team couldn’t quite get over the threshold and win a tournament championship, garnering three second place finishes in which they made it to the championship game. The Seahawks played in a World Series, two different state championships and a regional championship, while travelling from Key West, throughout the Treasure Coast and several trips to Polk and Lake counties in Central Florida over the past four months. One of the highlights of the World Series was Kirsten Pulvermacher winning the 10U title of Miss NSA based on her athletic, academic and civic achievements.
