Jury trial ended today with a verdict for the plaintiff. Meanwhile, docket and regular scheduled hearings were conducted between closing arguments and numerous pleas were taken. Additionally, administrative hearings were held this afternoon and several probationers and newly charged defendants were taken into custody for violating their bond conditions. This has been an extremely busy week that forced the entire court staff to work together as a unit since we did not have the benefit of having an associate judge help us out, and everyone did a fantastic job. We have a new clerk assigned to our court, so welcome Stephanie Ashton when you visit the court. But dont expect much of a reply, because she has been working non-stop and through lunches to keep everything flowing in the court. Rebecca Lewis brought back lunch for the jurors today after reporting the trial case and pleas all morning, while Rebecca Templet was answering the phones, dealing with lawyers on the docket and resetting cases as well as dealing with the jail and making sure everyone got brought over AND getting ready for tomorrow, too! The jurors that stayed to watch what we do were amazed that so much goes on over a one day period. They were very impressed with the amount of work that gets done and it was a real treat to have them recognize that all of this hard work is for the citizens of Montgomery County, Texas. They had nothing but high praise for everyone working in the court and also told me that they were treated very well and happy to know that being called as a juror was not the boring job they thought it was. And we do it all again tomorrow! Just another day in the 9th Judicial District Court.
