Just Sharing...a Thought: For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. II Timothy 1:7 Paul, as he was writing this Epistle, began by talking to Timothy, his “dearly beloved son”. Now it is never written or given that Paul was ever married and had children. Timothy was a “beloved son” a “dearly beloved son” for Paul, in Christ. Paul was in prison when he wrote this message to Timothy. Timothy was ministering in Corinth and was coming up against some hard resistance from some of the ‘church’, putting him down and questioning his ability to minister as a young minister. Paul instructed him to “stir up the gift of God” which he received in his anointing, even as Paul and the elders agreed in this by the laying on of their hands. Paul brought a truth here to Timothy and to us, with the understanding that ‘fear’ is not of God and is for a certainty not given of God. Satan loves fear as it gives him a place to be in a life and exist. Many years ago a comedian named, Flip Wilson, came up with a cliche, The Devil made me do it. He said it as a joke but many people had been using that for years. I believe many still do. The truth: the Devil/Satan has no more power over us than what we give him. Satan is given permission through fear and then many follow his lead, or prompting or deceitful persuasion; and he keeps prodding working hard on the weaknesses existing through fear, until the choice to change becomes harder and harder. But never impossible, for the choice for one to call out to Jesus for help, forgiveness and have overcoming, will be there, and we can make that choice and call at any time. God never deceives us and never forces our choice. Yet as we call out to Him for help, forgiveness and Salvation He gives us the spirit of power, love and a sound mind (true thought with no confusion). We make the choice and His Spirit, His power within us, strengthens us for our good. We are given a clear mind, in trusting Him, and ever an abundance of Love. We are then given the opportunity and privilege to choose to pray, read His Word, and to follow His lead: always in total freedom. Satan desires to capture and destroy a person by fear, yet a child of God is never given the spirit of fear: but the spirit of power, love and a sound mind. As we can do “all things through Christ, Who strengthens us”. (Philippians 4:13) Bro. Don But Speaking the Truth in love may grow up into Him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ.
