Just a public service announcement: if you are pregnant, be sure to ask your doctor for a CMV test. Its a virus that causes mono-like symptoms (fever, tired, etc) and can be transmitted to your baby with disastrous consequences. Through a total fluke I found out that I contracted it during my first trimester and thank goodness I have a chance to do treatments that could reduce the possibility of transmission to the baby (even though my insurance refuses to pay). Id never heard of this before, but apparently testing for it is part of standard pregnancy blood work in Europe and Israel. It isnt considered cost effective here in the US, even though CMV infections are the most common cause of congenital deafness in infants and can also causes blindness, neurological abnormalities, cerebral palsy, and/or enlarged organs.
