Just a short note to family and friends to say that my Dad, Tony - TopicsExpress

Just a short note to family and friends to say that my Dad, Tony Platzer, passed away this evening, Monday 10/20/2014 at the age of 88 in Hollywood, Florida. My brother is heading that way Tuesday morning and will provide more details and I will keep you all updated. Dad lived alone in his home, drove his car to breakfast everyday, had Happy Hour daily at 5:00 and had a wonderful and independent life until just a few months ago, when he developed some health and dementia issues and needed to move to an assisted living facility. Unfortunately, his health started a very quick decline and his knees also quit working, making it hard to get around. My Brother, Marty, has been a saint and has had to handle most of the really difficult decision making and care arrangements for dad and has done an outstanding job, including making weekly trips to town for visits, etc., all during a time when his own son has been waging a very difficult war with Leukemia and has been in and out of the hospital constantly on the other side of the state. Dad had a wonderful life and we were all blessed to have had him around for so many years. He loved to travel, fish, tell stories, keep up his home and drive his car. He was especially proud of his service in the Army Air Force and especially loved and adored his Grandson, Jeremy. Perhaps his most favorite thing was to go to breakfast at JPs Bagel Place on Hollywood Blvd. He considered this to be his second home and loved all of the people that worked there like his second family. He looked forward to seeing the other patrons for daily banters on current events, politics and life in general. He even had a special seat and everyone relocated when he came in the door to allow him to sit in his special spot. I honestly think that his daily visits to JPs added years to his life and certainly to the quality of that life. Anyway, not sure if there will be a memorial service or celebration of life party or what and/or when. I will let brother, Marty, select the arrangements and timing that works best for his family, since they have so much on their plate right now. In the meantime, please direct prayers for Martys son Jeremy that his Chemo treatments are successful enough so that he can get a bone marrow transplant next month. Love, Patty I will miss you Dad!!
