Just as we reached Hyderabad after driving non stop for around 19 hours, we were pulled over by the local police. We had heard horror stories about how they usually fine non Andhra registration vehicles with hefty fines which can range up to 18k. So we were quite tensed as they pulled us over. 2 policemen walked up to us and asked for all the necessary papers. On realizing we dont speak the local tongue, they started speaking to us in fluent English. They assured us to stay in our seats as they went through our papers. After learning that we had all the necessary documents and on realizing that we drove all the way to watch a film at Prasads Imax, they let us carry on without even a petty fine. We pushed our luck and asked if they can guide us to a good hotel where we can freshen up. To our utter surprise, without even a second of thought, one of them smiled, parked his bike, got into our car and took us to a good hotel. He introduced us personally to the staff, made sure we got a bargain of a deal and even came up with us to check the rooms and asked if we liked the place. We didnt know how to repay this generosity. But he didnt stop there, he found us a place to park our car, informed us about the local tourist destinations and even told us to not go back without tasting the world famous Paradise Biriyani. Just as we stood there awestruck by this gentleman, he reassured us that he patrols this street and that we will be fine here and to find him if we need anything. We have all these stereotypes and pre conceived notions about policemen being rude and unkind, but here was a gem of a man who went out of his way to help us. Its good to know there are still officers like him out there who recognizes that their oath is not only to protect but also to serve the public. Thank you for restoring my faith in the police force and also in humanity. Last there be many more like you my dear sir. :)
