Just been reading An update from your local MP email that I get in my inbox. This is what effing David Mowat says about fracking in Warrington! Shale Gas David pays a visit to the iGas site in Cuerdley Energy company iGas recently announced that it was about to undertake a seismic survey in the North of the Borough. This does not mean that they are about to start drilling for gas, just that the company wants to get a better idea of the geological structure of the ground to see where gas might be present. iGas already has a small drilling facility in Warrington which has been operating without incident for 4 years. I believe that shale gas, if it can be extracted in sufficient quantities could be a “game changer” for energy in the UK. In the US, gas prices have plummeted (now a third lower than in Europe), many hundreds of jobs have been created and, because gas has replaced coal in many power stations, US emissions are at their lowest since the early 1990s. Aberdeen has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the UK because the North Sea Oil & Gas industry employs so many people in the town. If shale gas could do the same for Warrington, that would create lots of highly skilled engineering jobs in the town. I dont know whether Glazebury is a suitable site, but I do know that we needd to find suitable sites across the country if we are to benefit from shale gas.
