Just came from the opening of the Mug Show at Jonathon Bancroft - TopicsExpress

Just came from the opening of the Mug Show at Jonathon Bancroft Snell Gallery here in London, Ontario. Over 1300 mugs from artists all over Canada there and happily, I received many compliments on my fish mugs, and its always nice to have that validation. So nice to see old friends and to meet new ones. (and I got some really great Christmas presents there as well!) The Mug is the quintessential domestic object, and truly, one of the most intimate things a potter makes...after all...you put it to your lips for cryin out loud! It is the cylindrical basis upon which many forms that the potter makes is based upon, and represents the culmination of thousands of hours of design experimentation. Ive always found it a wonderful thing that people, even though they know nothing of ceramic art, have their favorite mug. They will even move other mugs aside in the cupboard to get to their favorite mug, and woe to the person who uses ones favorite mug! It holds the right amount of coffee or tea, it reminds them of someone special, or was a gift from a special point in their lives. Whatever the reason, this truly Western object hold a special place in peoples lives, gives comfort and solace in a world fraught with problems. This season of cold and damp, enjoy your favorite mugs my friends and have a cuppa for me! Cheers!
