Just ended a fantastic weekend at the Building Sustainable - TopicsExpress

Just ended a fantastic weekend at the Building Sustainable Communities conference at the University of Maine, U.S., organized by team member Emily Markides and ESTIA (estiamaine.org), where we spoke about Famagusta and its potential to become a model ecocity. Other speakers included collaborators Bernard Amadei, founder of Engineers Without Borders and MIT architect, professor and expert in sustainable community design, Jan Wampler, as well as soon-to-be collaborators Søren Hermansen and Malene Annikki Lunden, co-directors of the Samsø Energy Academy in Denmark. The dialogue centered around creating new design and energy models that shift the paradigm away from centralized power structures that strip and disempower communities, towards localized collective action that creates resilience. We then accompanied our Danish friends to Monhegan Island, where they shared their experience in making the entire island of Samsø in Denmark 100% fossil free, an incredible feat that is leading the charge in this inevitable global energy shift. Feeling inspired, optimistic and hopeful! (photo: team members Emily & Vasia with Søren & Malene on Monhegan island)
