Just finished a remix for Hyena and thinking about the different - TopicsExpress

Just finished a remix for Hyena and thinking about the different ways people approach remixes... If you remix material, what is your method? For me, the most important thing I do when remixing a track is I dont listen to the original. I want a completely uninfluenced take at shaping the sounds into an original composition. First, I take the stems, chop them up into individuals sounds, and file them under yes, maybe and no. I start with the yes sounds - the ones that I love - and load them into #Maschine. As I mess around with the sounds, I get an intuitive feel for the DNA of the track, of how these sounds want to be in relationship with each other. Part of the creative challenge is to try to make a full track with just my favorite yes sounds, but if need be, I dip into the maybe sounds, and as a last resort, bring in an outside drum sound, percussion sample, or bass tone. Once Im finished with my remix, I sit down and listen to the original. Its like the desert after a great meal. Its fascinating to hear how another artist made an entirely different composition given the same set of sounds. Thats what I do. Im curious to hear what you all do when remixing.
