Just finished an off beat assignment for the night. Didnt involve any fires thank God, but got a call to come down to the city and canteen about 100 St. Louis City Police officers in 3 separate staging areas all in full riot gear ready and waiting prepared for any civil unrest to occur. They are working 12-14 hour shifts right now with little chance to break for food and drink so we were a welcome sight. We were supposed to just drop off some cambros with water, punch and hot water for coffee plus snacks and leave due to potential danger, but I couldnt do it so my team voted to stay and go from staging area to staging area and personally serve the men and women in blue. What little it was to ask and it amazed me how appreciative they were to us for someone being nice to them for a change. I think its time for all of St. Louis to start appreciating what these officers do for us every day without fail and without asking anything in return.
