Just finished rewatching Munich. The exceptionally dark, - TopicsExpress

Just finished rewatching Munich. The exceptionally dark, conflicted film about a Mossad team sent to kill targets in retribution for the Munich Olympics massacre in 1972. It seems primarily to deal with the personal cost of such vengeance, regardless of the rightness of the cause, and of the absence of any moral anchor as you proceed with such action. Any thoughts? The movie seems even cloudier than it did in 2005. At that time there were some clear parallels between the 9/11 attacks ; now, nine years later, the film seems mostly to state that to wrestle with monsters leaves you not so much a monster as horribly alone and adrift. There is no certainty of purpose here, no strength of convictions. The film generated a great deal of controversy, largely due to what was termed its moral equivalency; but Im not convinced that was wrong, especially on the light of recently surfacing news about what American forces reportedly did in the name of counterterrorism.
