Just got back from the first day of working on trailer loading - TopicsExpress

Just got back from the first day of working on trailer loading with a new clients 16hh, 1,000lbs, 2yr old Appy. Umbilical hernia issues kept them from being able to work much with him and he had become quite the handful. Biting, kicking, running over them and general rude and dangerous behavior. All of which he presented to me along with rearing. After less than an hour in the arena and he had learned how to go forward, disengage his hip and move his shoulders away, soften his shoulders when asked to walk off and lunge around me maintaining softness in the neck and shoulders. Without even really working on it, he also accepted me touching and pressing on his hernia area without batting an eye whereas before he would kick out at the owner when she tried and the vet couldnt even get close to it. Best part, he barely broke a sweat the entire time. Another hour had him loading and unloading quiet and calm foot by foot waiting for both the loading and unloading cue. Tomorrow we will continue the trailer loading lesson working on him staying in the trailer tied, divider up and door closed.
