Just got home from the hospital. Had to wait 2.5 hours after surgery to see Joe. So good news and bad news: He is much more alert than prior to the surgery, he seems to understand everything thats going on and what you say to him, and can respond with simple phrases like yes, no, or cool. But anything more complicated than that is pretty much unintelligible. It seemed pretty clear what he wanted most from us, though. The first word out of his mouth when he saw us was peach (or peak if you ask Lori). With some questioning, this turned into pain, which ultimately turned into praying. When I asked Joe if he wanted to pray, he said yep, and promptly closed his eyes and waited. :-) Thanks again (I keep saying that, but it is truly heartfelt gratitude) for all your prayers, and please keep it up. Were getting somewhat mixed signals from the doctors as to whether relieving the pressure on his brain will restore his speech, so we will leave the outcome in Gods hands.
