Just had a fun discussion - what if 75% of worship songs for Sundays were ones written pre-1950 and only 25% were contemporary pop? Focus more on the lyrical richness of earlier songs and stylistically move to older spirituals, hymns, roots gospel etc. I was in a discussion with a group of pastors as we planned a event, and overwhelmingly to my surprise (including one musical worship leader) it was lets stay away from lets sing some pop songs to start which led to some other fun discussions about the future of music, what theologically do we teach with the types of music we use etc. This was under the knowledge that contemporary Christian pop is booming and Hillsong and other approaches is major in the church today. I love discussions like this and fascinating to think about. I will be blogging again soon after a 2 year break and write more about these type of things which Facebook isnt the place for long posts like this one so I will stop typing now.
