Just had a triple feature of Dario Argentos weaker films: The Card - TopicsExpress

Just had a triple feature of Dario Argentos weaker films: The Card Player Giallo and Dracula 3D and I rate them in that order. The Card Player was a pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed it. Hardly a masterpiece in the same league as his earlier work but it was a exceptional crime thriller. I actually found myself invested in the story, the card games, even if it was a tad silly. Its an underrated gem. Giallo was ok, nothing to shout about and often it didnt deliver on the thrills, but it was a watchable Silence of the Lambs styled film. Adrian Brody gives the film its fascinating layer in the film, symbolically playing duel roles as both the detective and the killer, blurring the lines between justice and crime, showing that he is no different than the killers he puts down. Dracula 3D is in a league of its own, this makes Dario Argentos Phantom of the Opera look good, on par with the classic film versions, in comparison. Its really hard to believe that the maestro of horror who gave us Deep Red Tenebre and Suspiria created this movie. If I didnt see his name on the credits, I never wouldve guessed. This movie was so bad it wasamazing, this could actually be Darios Plan 9 or Troll 2. The acting, directing and pacing is so lifeless. The effects are so bad its like watching cutscenes in an old game that had real actors in front of an FMV background. Its so stilted, awkward and clunky all these problems made it so hilarious to watch. As an adaptation of Dracula, it fails. As a Dario Argento move, it fails. But as a campy, cheesy, terrible movie, it succeeds. Its crazy, and priceless. It nearly killed me, but I live to tell the tale. Could this earn the same cult status as Plan 9 Troll 2, The Room, only time can tell.
