Just had a wonderful experience watching the space shuttle traverse the night sky above my home here in Houston. Standing there watching it move ever so slowly across the sky gave me a case of the goose bumps thinking about the folks who are up there exploring and conducting scientific experiments which will benefit humanity. I know it is expensive and the payoffs are long term, but the space program has been such an awe inspiring part of my life since 1960 when I sat in math class and listened to the progress of Alan Shepherd and our first manned space flight. I hope we continue to test our limits in outer space and that my soon to be grandson may someday weekend on the moon as casually as we hop a jet to NYC or San Francisco today.
