Just in case all of you didnt know, I work at ALDI in Malone. When I work, I am constantly asked about recipes and how to cook something. I honestly feel that our Produce is the best in Malone! I say when the Amish people come to us for produce, you know it has to be good...lol Any who... I got off track... Squirrel... Where I was going with this is, here are some of the ways I prepare different types of produce. Asparagus: Sometimes I just steam it and add butter. Dont boil it because it will become mush. I also like to sauté it in butter with mushrooms, onions and garlic. When you use fresh mushrooms, do not wash them, take a damp paper towel and remove any soil. Mushrooms will not only add flavor to a dish, they also absorb flavors very easily... they have a lot of water in them already... that is why you dont wash them. With asparagus, be sure to cut the ends of them approximately one inch from the bottom... the ends are tough and hard to eat. As for onions, when you peel them, cut the end off and leave the root end in tact. This will help when you cut them so they wont fall apart so easily. Onions do not take a lot of time to cook. You sauté them until they become see through or translucent. Garlic, is a wonderful flavor that I personally love and use in a ton of recipes. You have t watch this though, it can burn very easily. When this happens the garlic can become bitter. The easiest way that I found to peel garlic cloves is to first take a knife and place it flat side on the glove and give it a whack with your hand. The peeling will come right off and you are ready to dice it up. I hope this helps... Know I need some feedback please, what types of recipes would you like me to post... and do You have any questions about preparing produce? Please let me know and I will do my very best!
