Just in passing..... sometimes a name makes you wonder.... for instance Stone Crusher Corner.... Stone Crusher Corner is a sharp bend on Kindley Field Road that was given its name after the airport was built. The nickname was occasioned by a stone crushing machine - a large, unsightly contraption - which was located there. The machine was used to make gravel for the improvement of the new, paved road between St. Davids Island the US Naval Operating Base in far-off Southampton. The stone crusher was such an eyesore that, having existed on the spot for about a decade, its name lingered for years after the contraption itself had been dismantled.
