Just in time for Labor Day (not Union Day), this excellent editorial from the Washington Examiner notes that SEIU will force unionization on 27,000 home care providers, although only 13% of PCAs voted YES to unionize. It notes, as weve warned before, that SEIU claims it wont take fair share fees from PCAs paychecks, but they certainly wont make it easy to opt-out. There are 2 legal challenges in Minnesota fighting PCA unionization--Greene v. Dayton and Bierman v. Dayton--so the unions days of skimming dues from people who provide care for their own family members (predominantly) are limited. The justification is that these caregivers clients — usually members of their own families — receive government money. Union-friendly states have applied a twisted logic to acts of loving care within a family to justify deeming the caregivers government employees. It does not help the forcibly unionized carers — it brings them not pensions or benefits, for example — but forces them pay tribute from their Medicaid assistance to a union.
