Just made ham bone soup. Cant miss recipe: Ham Bone Soup 1 Ham bone with meat (add extra ham slices if bone Add enough water to cover the bone. (We measured how much soup we saved over night and it came up to 7.5 quarts. That’s a lot of water but it did taste great without any further reduction.) 3+ stalks celery chopped 3 potatoes, cubed (we used russet) 1 15 oz can of northern beans 1 15 oz can of kidney beans ½ cup of green peas 1 tbsp sugar 1 cup green beans cut into bite-sized pieces 2 large onions, chopped 3 carrots, chopped 2 whole cloves ¼ cup diced turnips (this would probably be optional. Turnips dont have much flavor but perhaps they add thickening) 1 cup frozen corn cornels (put this in soup the last 15 minutes of cooking) 1 lb or more of tomatoes chopped 1 pint of tomato sauce salt and pepper 1 green bell pepper, seeded and cubed 6 cubes of chicken bouillon 1 tbsp dried basil (this is a guess. Donna put in a lot because there was so much volume. You may want to sneak up on this amount to be sure) 1 tsp dried oregano (this too is a guess. Sneak up on this amount to be on safe side. She put in less oregano than basil) Cover the ham bone with water in a large kettle and boil until meat is almost tender. (I boiled while I cut up the other ingredients. Because ham is from a cooked ham I dont think this step it critical. Add remaining ingredients, except corn. Cover and cook slowly for 3-4 hour, adding corn during the last 15 minutes. This soup will taste better the second day for sure.
