Just over 14 years ago (it will be 15 in march 2015), Gia and her then spouse LeeAnn had one dog and two cats when a litter of Pitbull mix pups were abandoned at the vet clinic LeeAnn worked at. Left to die of the parvo and kennel cough they had. But the vet opted to treat them and then adopt them out. One puppy died. LeeAnn fell madly in love with the only girl and next sickest of all the pups. A little dark red brindle...she asked Gia if they could have another dog and Gia was gung ho until she learned the breed. Then she dug her stubborn heels in and said no as all the media myths and lies about these dogs ran through her head. But LeeAnn was more stubborn and began leaving Polaroids all over the house of the puppy and encouraging Gia to challenge her own stereotypes and learn the truth about pitties. And Gia did. And Carmalina came home to live and it was the single most transformative thing in Gias thinking. She became the owner and advocate and foster of several more pitties and tries now to educate others about these misunderstood dogs. And today she and LeeAnn share Carm and Carm is still the darling kissing fiend she was back then. She will be 15 in January and she was, is and always will be Gias gateway dog into the joys of pits and pit mixes. Because of her, false thinking was put to rest. This article below is fantastic and addresses many of the most damaging myths...myths that very nearly caused Gia to avoid some of the greatest loves of her life. m.huffpost/us/entry/5623555
