Just received the following note from Carolyn King at Pickering Naturalists. Congratulations to Don Davis. Perhaps some WBFN members might be able to attend the December 4th meeting in Pickering. Don is a long time member of WBFN. Many of us have seen Dons Monarch tagging demonstrations at Presquile. Pickering Naturalists Members and Friends, Im pleased to announce that this years Pickering Naturalists Conservation Award will be presented to Don Davis. Don has been working for Monarch butterflies for over 47 years – locally, nationally and internationally. You may have met him doing his public monarch-tagging program for “Monarchs & Migrants weekend” every year at Presqu’ile Provincial Park. Don tags anywhere from 500 monarchs to 5000 monarchs, mainly east of Toronto, every summer! He works with a number of citizen science organizations such as Monarch Watch, Journey North and the Monarch Teacher Network. Don is one of Canadas foremost Monarch experts, and provides valuable input at meetings and conferences all over North America. The presentation will be one of the highlights of our Members’ Meeting on December 4. I hope you can all join us to congratulate him. Please pass on this good news to anyone who would like to join us in applauding his good work. Carolyn King pickeringnaturalists.org
