Just recorded a very special Dulcimerica episode with Sarah - TopicsExpress

Just recorded a very special Dulcimerica episode with Sarah Morgan. Upon hearing the news of Doug Snapps passing recently, a line from a song immediately materialized in my mind: I have had some real good friends I thought would never die/but all I have thats left of them are these teardrops in my eyes. Its from the song Too Old To Die Young and Ive been wanting to work it into my repertoire for a while now so it seemed like the perfect time to make it happen. Almost immediately, I heard Sarahs voice and mountain dulcimer in my head and, as great fortune would have it, realized that wed both be here at the Original Dulcimer Players Club (ODPC) Funfest in Evart, Michigan. Sarah dropped by Folkcraft Instruments last weekend for the Second Saturday Clinic, where I filled in last-minute for Danny Shepherd, who had a family emergency, and we talked about the arrangement, recording a quick demo on her iPad. By the time we both arrived in Evart and practiced it a couple of times, it had become a sweet little arrangement. Ive had the great privilege of performing with Sarah on-stage at various venues, but this is the first time that weve both strummed and sang a song together. We had a good time shooting the video early this morning and are very much looking forward to debuting the arrangement tonight as we close the Friday night concert. Ill post the video when I return home to Orlando next week. Life is an extraordinary tapestry and this sequence of events is but a thread within its ever-flowing fabric. Though Im unable to attend Dougs funeral this weekend, I hope that this tuneful offering will serve as both a celebration of this wonderful man as well as a reflection upon our day to day interactions with those around us. Treasure the moments and savor the connections that come your way, for they are the silk that is woven together with gold.
