Just returned from two unplanned days back at the SCH in Randwick. - TopicsExpress

Just returned from two unplanned days back at the SCH in Randwick. Connor has been unable to walk unassisted for nearly a week so his oncologist had us come straight down. Full body scans revealed he has avascular necrosis which basically means he has dead tissue and bone in his ankles, knees and hips. The culprit was the steroids he had to have earlier in his Leukaemia treatment. It will now take 12 to 18 months to reverse the damage with of course risk of some permanent damage. He will need to use a wheelchair for most activities outside the house and as much as possible refrain from weight bearing. There is no way of knowing how well he may recover and will now see the Orthopaedic specialist monthly as well as the oncologist for a while. Long term possibilities include arthritis and knee and hip replacements. Connor continues to experience every side effect known to mankind on the journey to fight Leukaemia. Still in the fight though, so should be grateful for that.
