Just seen Rock of Ages. Well.... That was a waste of time. It was really a toss up between this and Michael Bays The Island, and since I wanted to avoid waking up days later in Bays house with blood on my hands I went with RoA. Tom Cruise was fun. Hell so was Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand. But it all really amounts to.... nothing. Its the same old love story bollocks that seems entirely separate from the clichéd save the (insert rec centre/club/school name here) plot. It heads into all the same anti-corporate stuff that doesnt convince since the whole thing smacks of corporate backing (the leads seem less like the grimy outcasts you would think of and more like they just came runner up in a season of The X Factor). Its overlong and boring despite a few laughs and a gloriously cheesy soundtrack. All in all its another one of those cynical Shit Love Story + Popular Songs + Star Studded Cast = Success movies that everyone seems to like for some reason (Im looking at you Moulin Rouge).
