Just stopped at Jacksons to pick up a standard Quickstop item. With tax my purchase came to $7.41. All I had in my pocket was a 20 and a couple of ones, so I knew I would have to break the 20, but I have so much change scattered in so many places I reached in again to see if I could come up with enough change to cover the 41 cents. I pulled out a quarter of a dime a nickel and a penny. One of each denomination adding up to exactly the amount I needed. I said hey look at that, but the girl behind the counter did not smile or even acknowledge what I considered to be an interesting coincidence. I assumed it was because she was unhappy about working on Thanksgiving. Having worked at a few quick stops myself while raising a young family I understood perfectly, so I said keep the change. She looked up and said all of it? and I said yes happy Thanksgiving. Her demeanor immediately changed from Solomon to elated and surprised. She thanked me, and I thanked her for working today. People who know me well know Im not really in a position to be throwing money around at the moment, but making her go from unhappy too very happy was better than anything Ill ever get for $12. I am thankful for a self taught lesson about random acts of kindness. Happy Thanksgiving!
