Just thinking that forty or so years ago I was probably bouncing - TopicsExpress

Just thinking that forty or so years ago I was probably bouncing and running around with excitement about what would happen in a few hours from now...my family would gather in the living room to open gifts!! As I prepare for dinner this evening at my home I do not recall as a child ever feeling excited about the eating part of Christmas Day, just that on Christmas morning I would wake up to a shiny new something carefully staged next to the tree and my stocking would be full of candy and trinkets. I am so thankful that as I reached my teenage years, when magical child like feelings of Christmas begin to fade away a bit that I was just beginning to know the real gift that this season is about. This special song is embedded in my spirit as an anthem. I learned it from someone who so deeply understood and clung its truth that my heart began to open to receive what this gift had to offer. I have probably played it and sang more the any other song I have ever known all throughout the year. When my child could not fall asleep, needed comfort, direction or peace this was what she would ask me to sing. We celebrate His birth on December 25 but we cannot do that earnestly if we do not also celebrate His life and His death as the most precious gift we will ever know. The times we live in not only provides so much frivolous fluff and ease of self satisfaction but also constantly bombards me with the realities of current events that my easily jaded heart must make time to meditate and remind myself of the essence of Christ because I do not like myself when my life and circumstances take precedence over who He is and what He did for me. From the beginning of His life through the history of mankind, in His death and throughout all of eternity He is the only gift that matters. May you be blessed this Christmas season with vision and heart to receive the gift of His life and death each and every day of the year. Love to all.
