Just to let you know the vehicle compliance and RCMP are set up at Highland Park, across from Bloom on the Hammonds Plains Rd and by the overpass on the 101 on the Lucasville Rd. Their reason is to inform the local businesses how they will from now on be able to deliver product in the area and outside the area. What it means to me with my one ton truck if I deliver firewood to St Marg Bay I have to go the 102-103 to st Marg Bay Rd. This trip adds about another 30 KLMs each way and almost an additional hour of driving. If I want to go to Valleyfield to pick up feed or deliver firewood at the end of the Lucasville Rd it means an additional 20 KLMS each way and about 45 minutes additional driving time. If I want to deliver to Highland Park I can deliver via the HP Rd but must come back the 103-102. This also applies to Waterstone as well as Kingswood. The reasoning is wherever you deliver you have to take the quickest way off the HP/Lucasville Rd regardless if you just live a couple miles up the road. What this has done is to make local businesses that supply local residents or businesses at a major disadvantage and no longer competitive. After a hundred and forty three years it appears the oldest business in Hammonds Plains could be forced to close down. I might also note they claim Kynocks is exactly in the middle so they can go either way and Marwood who is just past the magical line is close enough to go either way but businesses just 400 past do not have that right. It appears the line is drawn with consideration given to some businesses but not others. I have been a resident of Hammonds Plains for 40 plus years and was always vocal about getting the outside the area truck traffic to stop using the Hammonds Plains Rd as a shortcut but it was never the intention to cause local businesses to basically become disadvantaged by locating in Hammonds Plains/ Lucasville. According to the local RCMP this whole project was spearheaded by a Greater Hammonds Plains Residents group and pushed by a certain person in Waterstone. It is just unfortunate that some people just do not care about supporting local business. Brian Murray Blue Barn Farms
