Just wanted to share a video of our son Brody and dog Tessie. We adopted Tessie from the Berkshire Humane Society in Pittsfield, MA almost 6 years ago. She was amaciated, abused, had mange, fear of men and very anxious. Before we were able to take her home they had to shave her so we could properly treat her skin infection. Our friends and family thought we were crazy. It has been a long road but she is an extremely smart dog and is a big part of our family. She is still anxious, has many quirks about her and needs a lot of attention. One of the concerns we had (as many others do) with adopting a rescue dog with a past like Tessies was how she would do when we started our family. For the first year of our sons life Tessie really could care less. As he began to start moving around she would avoid him...as he crawled toward her, she would just get up and move. We thought this was the relationship they would have, avoidance. When Brody finally started walking and throwing a ball their relationship changed drastically. As you see in the video below they are the best of friends, especially when outside together. Tessie still is not aware of her size and tends to get overly excited so they are never alone but I have a feeling as Brody gets older their bond will grow beyond anything we ever thought. Rescue dogs come with baggage, some more than others, but they also come with the desire to please and to be loved. Thank you Steve Caporizzo for advocating for these animals!!!!
