Just wanted to warn everyone in Facebook land, I received a call - TopicsExpress

Just wanted to warn everyone in Facebook land, I received a call from someone pretending to represent the IRS. They told me that they had attempted to contact me by mail and this was their last attempt prior to filing their suit. They suggested I obtain a criminal attorney. When I asked what they were talking about, they agreed to read me an affidavit of all my pending charges, explained that my license will be revoked immediately for five years, my accounts seized and my ability to open accounts in the future impeded for five years and all my possessions seized as well. When pushed, of course I could pay the debt today if he could obtain permission from his superiors, but it would need to be paid in full. I told him Id pay at IRS. This made him angry and he told me that I was not in control of this situation and that he will be revoking my license first, I explained that if this was what he needed to do, then fine, go for it. Within five minutes I received another call, different number from a woman claiming to be from DMV and explaining that Michael Johnson was on the other line and suspending my license effective immediately and only hed be able to remedy this going forward, I thanked her and said goodbye. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Johnson called back to give me my case number and remind me Id be arrested at my employment, I thanked him and contacted the IRS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A SUCCESSFUL SCAM. Luckily I didnt fall for it but many do. The government has websites dedicated specifically for reporting this scam. Just be cautious, even though I realized this as a scam, initially I was drawn in, they are convincing.
