Just watched movie 12 Years a slave All I can say is wow, what happened back then to many people was wrong and even though I was not a part of it nor was my any of my family. And before anyone says how do you know I am of Irish descent and we also were persecuted just not to this level of depravity that I am aware of. I am sorry for what that generation had to endure, It was wrong. There is no way to color gloss this, it was wrong on all levels of humanity and no man, woman or child should ever have to endure this in their life then, now, or in the future. I do understand more now about some of the outrage I read of, by the elder black community on black pride and how some of the youth are failing prior generations. To see what happened to them back in the 1800s, i tend to lean towards the belief of the older generation. This younger generation needs to do right by the prior generation and show everyone your pride in your ancestry. They suffered way more than any of you will or have suffered. I will work harder on doing right by this generation and not support anything to do with racism and intolerance of others. This movie was quite visual in allowing the viewer to experience the horrors endured by so many. If you feel you are being persecuted, watch this movie, it will show you what true persecution is. I pray we never return to this time.
